The name of these pretty baskets reflects the ingenuity of the women who make them. Loadshedding, a very common inconvenience of life in South Africa, is a temporary reduction in electricity supply to prevent a blackout. Instead of sitting idle and waiting until power is restored, the women artisans of Mia Mélange decided to create a design that could be made by hand, the old-fashioned way: while sitting in the sunshine. Adding this product to their collection also enabled them to ensure consistent work and income.

The Loadshedding Basket is a lovely and practical storage solution. Hand towels in the guest bath, suntan lotions for the backyard, toilet paper for the bathroom, or odds and ends for practically any corner of your home. Made from 100% cotton rope of cotton grown locally and sustainably in South Africa.
